When Those Autumn Leaves Fall

Autumn LeavesFall is here and once again your assistance is needed to help keep city streets safe and the storm drains clear.  Street crews pick up leaves and tree limbs that fall into the street, but do not pick up piles of leaves or grass cuttings from your yard. For leaves that fall in your yard, please recycle them as you would grass cuttings:

  • Place in your yard waste cart.  Extra may be placed in garbage cans, bags or other containers not weighing more than 40 pounds.
  • Tree branches should be placed in your yard waste cart or cut and tied into bundles no more than 2 ft wide x 3 ft long.
  • Place yard waste cart and any extra at your curb for pickup on your regular garbage day.
  • Green waste service is included in the normal monthly refuse collection fee.

City streets will be cleared of fallen leaves once a month during the leaf season as part of the normal residential street sweeping service and as needed after high winds and storms.  On your scheduled street sweeping day, please remove parked vehicles from the curb to allow for better sweeping.  If you are unsure on which day your street is scheduled for sweeping, please call the Public Works Department at (916) 617-4850 or click here.
