Holiday Recycling and Waste Reduction Tips

Christmas Tree RecyclingChristmas Tree Recycling
When the big day has passed and all of the ornaments are packed away, there’s only one thing left to do.  Recycle your Christmas tree! Recycling a Christmas tree helps return a renewable resource back to the environment and is easy to do in West Sacramento.  Before you recycle the tree, please remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, flocking and the stand.

 Residents may recycle their Christmas tree the following ways:

  1. Cut the tree into sections small enough to fit inside your yard waste cart (about 3’ sections).  Place the sections either inside or bundled next to the yard waste cart and it will be picked up on your regular service day;
  2. Take the tree to Whitey’s Jolly Kone (1300 Jefferson Blvd) on Saturday, January 7th for a drop-off event benefiting West Sacramento Cub Scout Pack 49. Trees will be accepted 9:00am to 3:00pm. Donations are accepted and benefit the Pack; or
  3. Take the tree to the Yolo County Landfill for free drop-off.  The landfill is located at 44090 County Road 28H.  Hours are Monday to Saturday 6:30am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 5pm.  Please call (530) 666-8729 or visit the website for more information and directions:  http://www.yolocounty.org/index.aspx?page=443
