City Trains Emergency Volunteers

CERTIn times of emergency or disaster, agencies like the West Sacramento Fire Department (WSFD) will turn to citizen volunteers for assistance, especially in the first hours of an event. The WSFD has been training citizens like you through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT program trains residents in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations.

With proper CERT training, you can help protect yourself, your family, neighbors and co-workers if a disaster occurs. The CERT program can make a positive difference when citizens may need to be on their own temporarily.

If you wish to learn how to prepare yourself—and be in a position to help your community—please sign up for the next CERT academy, starting in May. The program is free of charge. Contact the West Sacramento Fire Department administration office, (916) 617-4600 or visit the West Sacramento CERT website:

Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 7, 9, 14 and 16, 6 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and on Saturday, May 18, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Think of five sessions in May. . .and you’ll be prepared to “step up” in an emergency.

Thank you for your interest in CERT—see you at the next academy in May.
