Special Programs at the Turner Library

The Arthur F. Turner Community Library offers so much more than lending library books. Several programs are offered this Spring for children and adults. The Turner Library is located at 1212 Merkley Ave., West Sacramento 95691; phone: (916) 375-6465.

 

Check out these programs for adults:

  • Computer Basics, a free class for beginners,
    Tuesday May 7, 9 a.m. A library card and PIN are required. Call Turner Library
    to register.
  • English Conversation Groups, Tuesdays, 1 p.m.
    and Fridays, 10 a.m. Drop in for a free, fun hour of conversation and English
    language practice. Registration is not required—drop in visitors are welcome!
  • Spanish Computer Help / Ayuda Con Las
    Computadoras, Fridays, 10 a.m. Free one-on-one computer help for Spanish
    speakers. Call Turner Library to register.

Programs for children and teens:

  • Youth Cribbage Club, Thursdays, 4:30 p.m., ages
    10+. Come and learn the game of a lifetime. Improve your math skills. Play
    cribbage for fun or compete in tournaments. Call Turner Library for more
    information.
  • Buddy Reading, Thursdays, 4 p.m., for grades
    K-3. Practice reading with an older “buddy.” Each child will be paired up with
    a high school student from River City High’s Interact Club for a 15-30 minute
    reading session. No reservations required.
  • Russian Story Time, Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m., for
    children ages 2-6 years and their parents. Stories, songs, movement, rhymes and
    fingerplays. Call Turner  Library for more information.
  • Spanish/English Story Time, Saturdays, 11:30
    a.m., for children ages 2-6 years and their parents. Stories, songs, movement,
    rhymes and fingerplays. Call Turner Library for more information.
  • Toy Library, Tuesdays, 12 p.m.-2 p.m.;
    Wednesdays, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.; Saturdays, 12 p.m.-2 p.m. The Toy Library provides
    safe, educational and fun toys and games for children of all ages. A program of
    Child Care Services. Membership is $15 per year. Call the Turner Library for

For families:

  • Hawaiian Dance and Culture Presentation, Saturday, May 18, 2 p.m. Families are invited to attend a Hawaiian Dance and Culture presentation by the Ohana Dance Group. Call the Turner Library for more information.
