The Capitol Yards Officially Under Construction in West Sacramento

Under a bright mid-day sky, representatives of The Wolff Company hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at the West Sacramento site of their new development, The Capitol Yards. The event marked the formal start of construction on a project that is an important piece of West Sacramento’s plan for a vibrant riverfront.

The project will take shape quickly with the first units available for lease in early 2014. Construction is forecast to continue for approximately 14 months before its completion in the fall of 2014.

The Capitol Yards is a market-rate apartment development centrally located within walking distance of Raley Field, the riverfront’s Bridge District and the region’s largest employers. The project will feature 270 apartments in one, two and three bedroom configurations. With dense plantings and a large number of trees planned, The Capitol Yards will be a sanctuary within the urban core. The grounds feature a large open park-like area and residents will enjoy a state-of-the-art clubhouse complete with a professional shop-quality bike repair center, swimming pool and spa.

The Wolff Company used the groundbreaking ceremony to introduce the luxury development’s new name, The Capitol Yards. Daniel Nethercott, Development Director for The Wolff Company explained the name is, “a nod to the historic contributions to California of the area rail yards and is a reflection of the project’s proximity to Raley Field and the state capitol.”

In his remarks to the Mayor and other dignitaries gathered for the ceremony, Nethercott reflected on the efforts leading to the groundbreaking, “for more than two years we have worked hard to make this project a reality. Without the help and personal contributions of everyone here today, it simply would not have been possible. Thank you.”

West Sacramento’s Mayor Christopher Cabaldon added, “this project is a shining example of what can be accomplished when the City works collaboratively with the private
sector to identify common interests, and work towards common goals.” Cabaldon continued, “The Capitol Yards development is the first unsubsidized residential project to come out of the ground in West Sacramento, and in many ways it embodies the new reality of how innovative, exciting development can happen in West Sacramento.”
