West Sac Flood Protect and the City of West Sacramento Celebrates California Flood Preparedness Week, Nov. 4-8

The City of West Sacramento and West Sac Flood Protect are joining cities and counties across the state to participate in California Flood Preparedness Week.

“West Sacramento is surrounded by 52 miles of levees. It’s crucial that we identify and construct levee improvement projects to keep our residents and businesses protected from major flooding,” said West Sacramento Mayor pro Tem Chris Ledesma. “But massive flooding from levee failures normally aren’t to blame for flooding. A big winter storm that overwhelms our water systems can still damage homes and properties.”

West Sacramento is home to over $5.3 billion in commercial, residential and industrial properties and 50,000 residents. Levee improvement projects enhance the community and drive economic development by providing more stability for businesses now and in the future.

West Sac Flood Protect is also highlighting how important it is for West Sacramento residents and business owners to prepare for floods. Residents and business owners are encouraged to be flood prepared – http://youtu.be/gpADQDjSvQ8.

“It’s better to take steps to prepare for a flood now, when there is no threat of major storms,” said Flood Protection Manager Greg Fabun. “It’s as simple as making a plan for you and your family, building an emergency preparedness kit, getting informed about how the City plans for floods and protecting your property with flood insurance.”
