Bike riders, May is a great month to ride! Special events coming up:

  • Friday, May 1: May is Bike Month “Kick-off Ride,” the annual kick-off ride starts at Nugget Market, Southport Town Center, 2000 Town Center Plaza, and ends at the Capitol’s Rose Garden downtown Sacramento. Riders meet at the Nugget, 7 a.m.; the ride takes off at 7:15 a.m.
  • Wednesday, May 6: Tower Bridge Energizer Station, 7 a.m.-9 a.m., at the west end of the Tower Bridge on the south side of Tower Bridge Gateway. The station is equipped with water, light snacks and trinkets for giveaway.
  • Wednesday, May 6: On “National Bike to School Day,” Bridgeway Island Elementary School hosts this annual event with a ride starting at Sunset Vista Park, 3501 Oakland Bay Dr. at Golden Gate Drive, 7:30 a.m., and finishing at Bridgeway Island Elementary, 3255 Half Moon Bay Circle.
  • Saturday, May 9: “Ride the Streetcar Route,” with a ride following the proposed streetcar route from the West Sacramento City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Ave., across the Tower Bridge to Midtown Sacramento. The tour, led by Mayor Pro Tem, Chris Ledesma, will showcase the amenities and highlights of the streetcar route.
  • Thursday, May 14: The 11th annual “Capitol Bike Fest,” on the west lawn of the Capitol in celebration of “May is Bike Month.” Over 40 vendors will display their wares. In addition, raffles and free valet bike parking.
