The City of Sacramento has started construction of a new entrance into Old Sacramento that will likely result in traffic delays to and from West Sacramento over the Tower Bridge and Capitol Mall.
Night work will require shutting down one of the two westbound lanes beginning Saturday, September 12, 2015. Regular daily construction work from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday is expected to begin September 14, 2015. Two travel lanes in each of the eastbound and westbound directions will remain open at all times. This is with the exception of limited night work that will require reducing the number of open lanes to one per direction as needed. The project is expected to continue through the fall of 2016.
The Riverfront Reconnection Project includes construction of the 2nd Street and Capitol Mall Connector Bridge providing a new entrance for cars, bicycles and pedestrians into Old Sacramento from Capitol Mall at 2nd Street and Neasham Circle. Connections to the riverfront, Old Sacramento, the Crocker Art Museum, Capitol Mall, Raley Field, and West Sacramento will be enhanced, improving circulation and access for regional visitors.
