Phase 1 of the Southport Levee Improvement Project is well underway with the construction of Village Parkway South. The new roadway will replace segments of South River Road that will be removed as part of improvements to nearly six miles of levee along the Sacramento River.
This week crews are bringing in rock (aggregate base) for the new roadway section of Village Parkway and working on the intersections of Gregory Avenue, Davis Road, Linden Road and Lake Washington Blvd. The work is being performed one lane at a time and traffic will be controlled with flaggers so vehicle access for the public can be maintained. All rock placement from Gregory Avenue to Lake Washington Blvd. along Village Parkway should be completed by the end of this week. Paving is set to begin Monday (4/18). Paving will take place for approximately two weeks (4/18-4/22 and 4/25-4/29). All roads will be open but intersections where paving will take place may experience delays of up to 15 minutes.
Phase II, the levee construction phase of the project, is scheduled to start this summer and is expected to be complete in 2018.
