Streetcar Project Gets $30 Million in Funding

Streetcar route would go from downtown West Sacramento to midtown Sacramento.

Statement from West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon:

The downtown/riverfront Streetcar project just crossed the finish line, and we’re headed to construction! The State of California announced that our project has been awarded $30 million in cap-and-trade funds, based on how much climate change emissions will be avoided and reduced by the Streetcar. With that grant, we now have enough committed funds to move forward with building the region’s first Streetcar line. Thanks to Governor Brown, our legislators, and the State Transportation Agency. And big thanks to Congresswoman Doris Matsui, who helped win federal approval for the project and then $75 million in federal funds. And most especially, thanks to the voters of West Sacramento, who made the very first investment in the project with a sales tax vote in 2008, and then persevered until we finished the marathon . An enormous win…it’s time to build!
