Community Center: New Classes and Events

With summer in full effect, The West Sacramento Community Center is offering residents a variety of classes, events and activities for the season. There are a number of summer classes ranging from jazz dance to archery, as well as Active Aging programs. Additionally, the Center will host Kids Night Out in July, month-long exhibits at Gallery 1075 and a family glow Zumba party in September. The Community Center also offers rental rooms for various events.

Kids Night Out 

Kids Alice in Wonderland Theme. Let’s have a Tea Party!

Kids from kindergarten through fifth grade are invited for an Alice and Wonderland night. They will make crafts, playing games, and enjoy a kid-friendly dinner. They will end the night with a movie so don’t forget blankets and pillows!

Date: Friday, July 21

Time: 6:30pm-9:30pm

Ages: Kinder through 5th grade

Fee: $8.00 pre-registration, $10.00 at the door


Family Glow Zumba Party

The West Sacramento Community Center is hosting its annual Family Zumba Glow Party! Instructors will teach Zumba and Zumba Kids routines. Enjoy a great time dancing under the glow and disco lights. This event is not only about dancing, but also includes fun fitness activities and games that engage all ages. 

Date: Saturday, September 23rd

Time: 5-7 p.m.

All Ages Welcome

Adults: $8.00 pre-registration, $10.00 at the door

Kids: $6.00 pre-registration, $8.00 at the door

Mad Hatter Tea Party

Join the Community Center staff for a Mad Hatter-style tea party. Mad Hatter attire is encouraged, so don’t be afraid to wear bright mismatched clothes and crazy hats! Go big and go wild as we will be having a hat contest to find the craziest, cutest and biggest hats. Winners will receive a special prize. Seniors are encouraged to bring a young or young-at-heart friend (with paid admission). Please register early.

AARP Smart Driver Course

Cars have changed and so have traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads we drive on. Come to this course to retain confidence while driving. Participants must preregister. Fee covers two day class-participants must attend both days for certification. Space is limited.

Date: Thursday and Friday, August 17th and 18th

Time: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Fee: $15.00 for AARP members; $20.00 for non-members. Pay by check only.

Coffee with a Cop

West Sacramento Police Officers will be in the Margaret McDowell Lounge to enjoy a cup of coffee with our seniors. This is a time to talk with our police officers, ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers who patrol our community. Free coffee will be provided, but please bring your own donuts.

 Zumba Gold Mega Class ‘80’s Party

Join us for an 80’s Theme Zumba Gold Mega Class! Zumba Gold Mega Classes are fun themed fitness parties with a social, prizes and treats after dancing.

Date: Wednesday, September 20th

Time: 1:15-3:15 p.m.

Ages: 18+

Fee: $7.00

Rental Spaces

Community RoomThis Space serves a variety of functions including classes, parties, banquets and meetings, with seating for up to 120 people. The contemporary, attractive atmosphere is ideal for all occasions.

Amenities Include:

  • An 18′ Wide by 11′ High Projection Screen
  • A/V System & Internet Access
  • 2 Microphones
  • Podium
  • Catering Kitchen
  • 72″ Round Tables, 6′ Rectangular Tables
  • Black Plastic Chairs

The River and Bridge RoomsThese rooms will facilitate a wide range of activities and can be used for meetings or classes with seating for up to 40 people in each room. These rooms can be separated with the partition or can be joined to create one larger room.

Amenities Include:

  • A Large 12′ Wide by 7′ High Projection Screen
  • A/V System (Only available in the River Room)
  • 2 Microphones
  • Kitchenette
  • 72″ Round Tables, 6′ Rectangular Tables
  • Black Plastic Chairs
