Traffic Delays Expected on HWY 50/Pioneer Bridge

Sections of the Pioneer Bridge will be closed through the summer for nighttime and weekend work as Caltrans puts a new surface on the span, replacing the deck overlay with a thicker, more durable material. The Pioneer Bridge is the main connector for Sacramento and Yolo counties on U.S. Highway 50 over the Sacramento River.

Overnight Lane Closures
Nightly work Monday-Friday begins at 7 p.m. in both directions, reopening at 5 a.m. westbound and 6 a.m. eastbound for the morning commute.

Weekend Closures
55-hour closures will also take place over several weekends throughout the summer. The first closure will be Friday July 21 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday July 24.

Caltrans urges the public to plan ahead before traveling on the bridge and to seek alternative routes when necessary. Delays are expected during construction. Construction is expected to last through September.
