Southport Levee Construction Road Closure Update

Heads up for new road restrictions and detours as part of the ongoing Southport Levee Improvement Project. Utility removal and road construction work along South River Road will run October 2 through October 30. Traffic control devices will be set up during construction activities:

  • South River Road closed at City limits from 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 6 to  8 p.m. on Sunday, October 8. Local traffic should use Jefferson Boulevard during the closure. Changeable message boards are being used to provide advanced notification.

  • Single lane traffic control will be from 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 8 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28. Expect traffic delays up to 15 minutes in this area.

The Southport Levee Improvement Project will implement flood risk-reduction measures along a 5.6 mile stretch that will bring this section of the levee up to current standards with Federal and State levee criteria, as well as provide opportunities for ecosystem restoration and public recreation.
