December 1, 2017 – English Conversation Group at 10am-11am (Friday)
Join our adult Conversation Group and improve your English in a fun and relaxed way with the aid of a group facilitator. No registration is required; drop-in visitors are welcome.

December 2, 2017 – West Sacramento Friends of the Library Book Sale at 9am-4pm

Come and check out the book sale put together by the West Sacramento Friends of the Library. Paperbacks – $0.50 and hardbacks – $1.00. Bargain Sunday – $4.00 a bag. If you have a question about your laptop, tablet, or phone bring it in to get answers.  If you have a general technology problem, you can get help using our laptop or tablet.  Tech Help One-on-One sessions will be 20 minutes and by appointment only so please register at the Information Desk or call (916) 375-6465.

December 6, 2017 – Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) at 11 am-12 pm

Come and meet a representative from the Yolo County Health & Human Services once a month from 11am-12pm about adult and dislocated worker training services.  Starting October 2017, WIOA will only be at the library once a month for one hour.

December 7, 2017 – Fair Housing Pop up Clinic at 3 pm-5 pm
Staff attorneys and coordinators will be on hand to assess and address your fair housing issues.  Facing discrimination at your home?  Overly restrictive rules from management? Questions about your rights under the fair housing laws?  Come speak with Project Sentinel staff to get help!

December 9, 2017 – Gingerbread Decorating at 1 pm-2 pm

Come join us for a special Gingerbread Man decorating event. You will be able to decorate your very own gingerbread man made out of cardboard.

December 11, 2017 – Love on a Leash at 4 pm-5 pm

Love on a Leash® (LOAL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing an avenue for volunteer pet therapy teams to engage in meaningful and productive animal assisted therapy. Children ages 6 through 12 are invited to join us for a fun “Read to a Dog” program. Parents or caregivers are asked to stay with their child and help with the reading. This helps build confidence in reading out loud. After 10 visits, a participant can pick 1 free book.

December 11, 2017 – Holiday Concert at 6 pm-7 pm

Come join us in the library for a FREE concert featuring the River City High School Jazz Band – Syncopating Sea-Monkeys directed by Ms. Felicia Weatherly!

December 13, 2017 (Wednesday) – English Conversation Group at 4 pm-5 pm

December 13, 2017 – Teen Club at 5 pm-6 pm (Teen Room)
Teens are invited to participate in our bi-weekly program at the library focused on teen development through engaging activities. Snacks will be provided. Great for ages 13-18. 

December 14, 2017 – Multi-Sensory Story Time at 6 pm-7 pm
Children ages 1 to 5 years and their parents or caregivers are invited to join us for an inclusive story time with a focus on children with special sensory needs. Story time will be using adapted books and sensory toys.

December 14, 2017 – All Things String at 6 pm-8 pm
Whether you knit, crochet, embroider, or enjoy other fiber arts, this social crafting circle is for you! Bring your current project or start something new!

December 18, 2017 – S.T.E.A.M.ing Mad – Holiday Lanterns at 4 pm-5 pm
Create a holiday lantern using Melted Crayon Art and Popsicle sticks. And guess what – it really will have a light. Great for tweens and teens.

December 18, 2017 – Tales for Tails at 4 pm-5 pm
Children ages 6 through 12 are invited to join us for a fun “Read to a Dog” program. You will get to meet up to 4 (FOUR!) very special dogs and their handlers.

Animals are ideal reading companions because they: 1. Listen attentively; 2. Do not judge, laugh or criticize; 3. Allow children to proceed at their own pace; and 4. Are less intimidating than peers. Parents or caregivers are asked to stay with their child and help with the reading. This helps builds confidence in reading out loud. After 10 visits, a participant can pick 1 free book.

December 20, 2017 – What’s Happening Seniors? at 12 pm-1:30 pm
Want to get together with interested, active seniors to make new friends, share stories, learn from one another, and find out What’s Happening in West Sacramento and beyond?

The West Sac Friends Of the Library meets the last Wednesday of the month.  WSFOL is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to serving the West Sacramento community supporting library programs and services. WSFOL is always recruiting for new friends.

On-Going Programs: 

*Food for Fines is a program in which library cardholders who donate one food item to clear $1 from their Yolo County Library overdue fines.

Bilingual Russian Story – Tuesday at 6:30 pm-7:30 pm
Children up to 5 years of age and their parents or caregivers are invited to join us for stories, songs, movement, rhymes and finger-plays in Russian and English. Arts and crafts will also be provided as part of this story time.

Bilingual Spanish Story – Saturdays at 11 am-12 pm
Children up to 5 years of age and their parents or caregivers are invited to join us for stories, songs, movement, rhymes and finger-plays in Spanish and English. Arts and crafts will also be provided as part of this story time.

Buddy Reading – Mondays at 4:30 pm-5:30 pm
Practice reading with an older “buddy”. Each child will be paired up with a high school student from the River City High School Interact Club for a 30-minute reading session.  This helps builds confidence in reading out loud and comprehension in reading.  After 10 visits, a participant can pick 1 free book. Registration Required.

Homework Center – Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 pm-5:30 pm.
FREE after school program for students in grades 3 through 8 to receive homework help. Pre-Registration is required. Registration application is free and available at the Information/Reference Desk at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library. If there is any question, please call (916) 375-6469 to speak with the Homework Center Assistant.

Hug-a-Bye Baby – Thursdays at 11 am-12 pm
Children up to 12 months old and their parents or caregivers are invited to this lap-sit program that features language development through songs, picture books, finger-plays and lullabies.

Mother Goose – Tuesdays at 11 am-12 pm
An award winning program for children (ages 12 to 36 months) and their parents or caregivers that combines music, movement, visual literacy and language development to help children develop emotionally and socially while encouraging a positive attitude towards learning.

Preschool Story Time– Wednesdays at 11 am-12 pm
Children ages 3 to 5 years and their parents or caregivers are invited to join us for stories, rhymes, song and finger-plays to help develop early literacy skills and encourage group participation.


The Yolo County Library’s branches will be closed all day on December 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas, and January 1 for New Year’s Day.
