City Council Selects Ledesma as Mayor Pro Tem

City of West Sacramento 25 Year LogoThe West Sacramento City Council has selected Christopher Ledesma as Mayor Pro Tem, effective Dec. 5, 2012. Mr. Ledesma succeeds Oscar Villegas, who remains a member of the City Council. The Mayor Pro Tem serves in the absence of the Mayor when the Mayor is not available for City Council meetings or City events. The Mayor Pro Tem serves a one year term.

This is the first time that Mr. Ledesma has served as Mayor Pro Tem. Mr. Ledesma has been a City Council member continuously since the fall of 2010. Prior to his election to the City Council, Mr. Ledesma had been a member of the City’s Planning Commission since 2001, including five terms as the commission’s chair.

In Mr. Ledesma’s experience with the Planning Commission and the City Council, he was  instrumental in helping attract significant new employers to West Sacramento, including IKEA, Target and Nugget Market. He has, and continues to be an advocate of the Bridge District development at the city’s riverfront, and additional parks and recreation areas, including the West Sacramento Recreation Center.

Although West Sacramento citizens vote to elect the city’s Mayor and City Council members, the City Council selects each Mayor Pro Tem.

In addition to Mayor Pro Tem Ledesma and Councilmember Villegas, the current members of the West Sacramento City Council are Mayor Christopher Cabaldon, Mark Johannessen, and William Kristoff.

The next regular meeting of the West Sacramento City Council is Wednesday, Dec. 12,
2012, 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Ave.
