Don’t Light Tonight Advisory: Extended through Thursday

The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District (AQMD) has called a “Don’t Light Tonight” advisory for Wednesday, Jan. 16th and Thursday Jan. 17th due to the forecast for higher pollution levels. The Yolo-Solano AQMD asks that residents do not burn wood in their fireplaces or woodstoves on Wednesday or Thursday.

Wood smoke contributes to fine particulate pollution. Certain weather conditions, such as those expected to be present in the Yolo-Solano area beginning Tuesday, keep smoke in our neighborhoods and elevated pollution concentrations. Children, the elderly and those with lung ailments are especially susceptible to the health impacts of wood smoke.

On days in which particulate pollution levels are forecast to be higher, Yolo-Solano AQMD asks residents to refrain from burning wood. Participation in the “Don’t Light Tonight” program is encouraged but voluntary. Residents can sign up for e-mail or text message “Don’t Light Tonight” alerts at
