New Community Center Exhibit: Our Journey, The First Families of East Yolo

The West Sacramento Historical Society has developed a series of exhibits, titled “Our Journey,” to celebrate the contributions and histories of the diverse populations of West Sacramento and East Yolo County.

A new exhibit, “Our Journey: The First Families of East Yolo,” opens at the West Sacramento Community Center Gallery 1075, on March 7, continuing thru the end of the month.

The exhibit honors the people of Native American ancestry who lived, worked and raised families in West Sacramento from the late 1800s to the present day. The story follows the early families who settled in Washington, Bryte and Broderick, 100+ years ago. These families include people of various cultural and tribal heritages, and Native families actively involved in the civic and political affairs of East Yolo and the greater Sacramento
region for decades. The exhibit shares their story of the past 100 years—a significant part of this region’s history.

The West Sacramento Community Center is located at 1075 West Capitol Ave., across the street from City Hall. For more information, call the West Sacramento Historical Society, (916) 617-2288.
