Air Quality Mower Exchange Program Begins March 4

Yolo-Solano AQMDThe Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District (AQMD) will launch its 2013 Mower Exchange program. West Sacramento residents who trade in a gas-powered mower and purchase a new eligible electric mower will receive a rebate of $120. Residents can choose from 29 eligible models made by 10 different brands. Participants can purchase their new mowers in local stores or online.

Gas-powered lawn and garden equipment contributes to air pollution. Studies show that exposure to air pollution can lead to serious health impacts, including lung ailments and increased risk for heart disease.

“There are a number of benefits in switching to an electric mower,” said Mat Erhardt,
executive director of the Yolo-Solano AQMD
. “Electricity is cheaper than gas, the mowers are easier to operate and far less noisy. But most important is the positive impact of switching on the health of our community.”

Beginning Monday, March 4, residents can request a voucher from the Yolo-Solano AQMD. Residents are not eligible for a rebate until receiving a voucher and completing all required steps. Vouchers can be requested via or by calling (530) 757-3657 beginning March 4. Those interested and would like to be notified when the program opens can send an email to Tom Hall, .

The program is open to residents of Yolo and Solano counties.
