Fire Dept. Counts on Community During Weed Abatement Season—Help Prevent Fires!

West Sacramento Fire DepartmentVegetation fires potentially cause damage to life and property. In a proactive effort to reduce the risk of these fires, the City Council has approved the Fire Department’s annual campaign to abate weeds. The public’s awareness of weed abatement has had increasing success in reducing the intensity, the size and total number of vegetation fires, as well as public complaints about overgrown vegetation.

Citizens can assist the Fire Department—and their community in being proactive about weed abatement. If you own property with overgrown, combustible vegetation or weeds, please maintain your lots in a safe manner by removing these potentially dangerous hazards. All lots with overgrown weeds will need to be abated by May 19.

For questions about the City’s weed abatement program or more information on how you can help, please contact Fire Administration at (916) 617-4600 or visit the Weed Abatement web page at http://www.cityofwestsacramento.org/city/depts/fire/prevention/weed_abatement.asp.
