Adult Programs

Sacramento SCORE: How to Start a New Business Series
Tuesdays, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Registration required. Call the library for more information. The Sacramento chapter of SCORE will walk you through the steps you need to take to start your business.

Taiwanese Burrito Cooking Demonstration
Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m.
Sample and learn how to make the delicious street food traditionally eaten during Qingming Festival at this demonstration by Luke Chang.

Consumer Scam Stopper
Saturday, Aug. 10 at 1 p.m.
This presentation by the Contractors State License Board will teach you how to identify scams and how to protect yourself as you work with contractors.

Yolo County Master Gardeners: “Summer Gardening”
Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m.
Explore the world of culinary herbs and other seasonal tasks at this informative program from the West Sacramento chapter of the Master Gardeners.

ONGOING ADULT PROGRAMS

Monthly Computer Class
1st Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m.
Topic changes monthly. Past classes include “Basic Computer Skills”, “E-mail 101”, and “Intro to Microsoft Word”.

English Conversation Group
Fridays at 10 a.m. Join us for a fun hour of conversation and English language practice. Registration is not required, drop-in visitors are welcome!

History, music and dance go hand-in-hand as we share African American experiences through culture.

Spider Search Party
July 16 at 3 p.m.
Learn about common local spiders and where they might be hidden in our homes and communities. Spider crafts and games. Sponsored by Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.

Reading is So Delicious Crafts
July 23 at 3 p.m.
Jon Lopez, Magician Extraordinaire!

July 30 at 3 p.m.
Great Stuffed Animal Sleepover and Midnight Feast
Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
After a lively evening of stories, leave your favorite stuffed animal for a sleepover at the library and see what the animals will get into when no one is around (photographs of the animals’ nighttime fun will be available for pick-up the next day)

ONGOING CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Family Story Time
Saturdays 10:30 a.m.
Parents and children are invited to join us for stories, rhymes, fingerplays and songs to help develop early literacy skills and encourage children to engage in group participation.

Russian Story Time
Wednesdays 6:30 p.m.
Children ages 2 to 6 years, and their parents are invited to join us for stories, songs, movement, rhymes and fingerplays.

Spanish/English Story Time
Saturdays 11:30 a.m.
Children ages 2 to 6 years, and their parents are invited to join us for stories, songs, movement, rhymes and fingerplays.

Movie for Kids
2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 2:00 p.m.
All children and families are invited to view a Family Friendly (G or PG) movie.

Toy Library
Tuesdays 12-2 p.m., Wednesdays 4-6 p.m.
The Toy Library provides a variety of safe, educational and fun toys and games for children of all ages. A program of Child Care Services. Membership is $15.00 per year.

Buddy Reading (Grades K-3)
Fridays 4 p.m.
Practice reading with an older “buddy”. Each child will be paired up with a high school student from the River City High School Interact Club for a 15-30 minute reading session. No reservations required.

Teens and Tweens Smoovie Afternoon
Thursday, July 18 at 3:00 p.m.
Join us for a smoothie and a movie.

SAT/ACT Workshop
Saturday, Aug. 24 at 12 p.m.
A fully-proctored practice ACT and SAT test will show students what to expect in a test-like environment. Please register for this event at the library (call or stop by the Information Desk 916-375-6465) or www.kaptest.com/college. (SAT/ACT Results Analysis is Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Students will receive a comprehensive analysis of their performance on the test, detailing individual strengths and weaknesses.)
