TOMRA Begins Construction of New Facility in West Sacramento

The Norwegian company, TOMRA Sorting Solutions, is expanding its presence in West Sacramento with construction of a new 60,000 square foot facility in West Sacramento’s Riverside Center by Harsch Investment Properties. Founded in 1972, TOMRA has become a global leader in recycling and food sorting. TOMRA now manages 10,000 food sorting machines in 80 nations.
For example, TOMRA’s equipment processes 40-50 tons of potatoes per hour, 24 hours daily. TOMRA sorts all kinds of fruits, vegetables and nuts. The world’s population expects safe, high quality food, says TOMRA’s President Ashley Hunter. At the facility groundbreaking, Mr. Hunter said the company believes in “recovering and re-using all the food it removes from the ground.” The new West Sacramento facility will support the company’s sorting operations.
Mayor Christopher Cabaldon said West Sacramento’s “quality water supply, access to road and rail, and its quality of life” makes the city attractive to TOMRA and its employees. “West Sacramento continues to be a strong place to do business,” a location where projects get done on time and on budget.
“This new building will provide TOMRA with a best in class facility in West Sacramento and support its growth and leadership in the industry,” said Harsch’s Senior Vice President of Development, Don Little. “They are a great partner with a bright future and Riverside Center is a perfect home for them.”
