WSPD Receives Funding for Anti-DUI Program

Police BadgeThe West Sacramento Police Dept. (WSPD) has been awarded a new traffic safety grant to reduce the incidence of impaired driving on West Sacramento streets and roadways. The $19,750 grant, from the California Office of Traffic Safety, will be used to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving, while targeting driving under the influence(DUI).

The program supports DUI/driver’s license checkpoints, which are proven to be the most effective method of DUI enforcement. Accidents involving alcohol have been shown to drop by up to 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted. Checkpoints can provide cost savings of $6 for every one dollar spent on reducing DUI accidents.

“The WSPD is dedicated to keeping our streets safe through both enforcement and education,” said Lt. David Delaini.
