City to Open Bridge District Water Storage Facility and Park, Feb. 28

The City of West Sacramento adds a major asset to support smart growth development in the riverfront Bridge District, with the opening the Bridge District Water Storage Facility and Jerome D. Barry Park, Feb. 28, 10 a.m. The dual purpose facility is located at 809 Ballpark Dr., adjacent to Ironworks Lofts and Homes, west of Raley Field (parking available on Drever Street.

The 3-million gallon water storage facility is surrounded by a neighborhood park, named the Jerome D. Barry Park, in honor of a former justice of the peace. Jerome D. Barry (1859-1931) was local  Justice of the Peace, from 1913 to 1925. He also gained distinction as a pitcher for the Sacramento Altas in 1886. Mr. Barry lived his entire life in West Sacramento, including a career with the Southern Pacific Railroad and serving as a volunteer fireman. His family still resides in West Sacramento. The park is equipped with
green, sustainable features and promotes physical activity for users of all ages. The water storage facility serves development in the Bridge District.
