Stonegate Elementary Students Prep for Floods

3rd grade students at Stonegate Elementary School learned to Plan, Pack and Protect today as part of California Flood Preparedness Week.

West Sacramento City Councilmember Quirina Orozco joined flood experts from the Department of Water Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for interactive lessons about the importance of being flood ready.

Students in teacher Monica Reeves’ class mastered the Flood Challenge video game, took turns pouring water into the DWR flood simulation model, and took home Plan, Pack and Protect backpacks stuffed with emergency items, which included flashlights and umbrellas.

The group also got an update on the City’s Southport Levee Improvement Project.
