Donate Food and Clear Your Library Fines

The annual “Food for Fines” program is underway! The program allows library cardholders who donate one food item to clear $1 from their Yolo County Library overdue fines and also feed the hungry this holiday season.

Yolo County Library cardholders can donate food from November 20 through December 31 at the circulation desk of any Yolo County Library location. There is no limit to the number of donations and no limit to the reduction in fines cardholders can receive. Library cardholders are welcome to donate even if they do not have any overdue fines!

Donated items will be given to the Yolo Food Bank. Suggested donations include the following:

  • Canned tuna or meats
    ● Canned fruits and vegetables
    ● Canned or dry beans or low-sodium soups
    ● Canned or boxed meals
    ● Cereal, rice or pasta (whole grains)
    ● 100% fruit juice or shelf-stable milk
    ● Peanut butter

Rusty or unlabeled cans, non-commercial items, alcoholic beverages or mixes, food packaged in glass; or perishable, expired, open, used or homemade items are not accepted.

Last year, the Yolo Food Bank received 4,381 pounds of food from the Food for Fines program. This year the goal is to collect 6,000 pounds of donated food.
