Goats Here for Spring Grazing Season

A herd of 400 mastication goats arrived  at the Broderick Boat Ramp this week where they will munch grass for the next several days before moving to other locations in the City. The animals play an important role in vegetation management and fire fuel suppression on city-managed open space.

The Parks and Recreation Department has a contract with Blue Tent Farms out of Red Bluff to keep the goats through May. After the Broderick Boat Ramp, the goats will travel to the Barge Canal, Clarksburg Branchline Trail, Linden Road, Heritage Park, and along the river in the Bridge District. Follow the City’s Facebook Twitter, and Instagram accounts for updates on their grazing schedule.
